Rocktron "Purple Haze" Octave Divider: The "Purple Haze" must be acknowledged as a good sounding octave pedal effect. It has boldly stood it's ground here, despite being victimized by the objectivity our Test Suite. Most octave pedals do their thing, while playing single note lines. Most of our test recordings included double stops, and triads. This will tend to bewilder any octave device. However; as the ancient ones said: "ya live...ya learn, boys-n-girls"! We'll "fix it better", it next run-through.
Despite some mismatch, there are a few single note sequences in our audio below, hinting at the abilities of this cool pedal. We salute the Rocktron designers for offering one pedal that not only produces an octave above, OR below what you play on guitar: it allows you to select either, or BOTH effects, at the same time. This can clearly be heard in the audio below. The three octaves in "unison", is worth the price of admission.
The purple Haze also has a setting which allows you to bring out a tone, two octaves below the note you're playing on the guitar. Its tracking isn't quite perfect; down there, but it's a whopper when it drops into the slot, oh yeah! Nice and vast sounding. The flavor is a third cousin to some bass pedal devices: the keyboard version of the MTI Auto Orchestra, and various other Taurus pedal, wanna-bees.
We ask that you give the Rocktron Purple Haze, the benefit of the doubt, it's a good octave box, with more than it's share of extra features. Check it out.
