Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. No; this isn't a wedding rehearsal, just a few impressions of the PE "Outbox," effect pedal, which really does touch on all the above categories.
Here's the line-up, (which is a little different than many pedals): There are knobs for volume, gain, and "Hair", pots.three LED function indicators, plus on-off, preset, and "more" foot-switches.The Outbox is a hefty fuzz, distortion effect, (if nothing else here captures your fancy). This brings us to the "preset" knob:which creates a scooped- midrange sound; leaving the top and bottom pretty much in tact. But wait, there's more: the remaining sound is still plenty full, because the Outbox generates a modest, but constant "octave down" effect at all times. Hmmmm.interesting, shades of the old "Standard Fuzz", "Fender Blender", or the ponderous "Bee Baa". Especially when the mighty "Hair" knob, is added to the mix. Viva La Hair knob! Turn it to the to the right; and ask your self the age old question: How much, is enough? There's sufficient big/bad" territory here for more than one sound, (even on just the "Hair" knob, which is itself an option).
It would be wise to get a listen to this pedal before purchasing it. Does the low-mid, and bass boost here, go with your rig? Does the scooped mid EQ compliment your other equipment, because there are no tone controls on the pedal to target or adjust frequency ranges. PE offers quite a bit with the Outbox: though some tone controls would be terrific here, there's almost nowhere to stick them, and this pedal might have been an expensive, slow seller, in a larger, knob-infested box. Here's another situation where one or two Boss GE-7, EQ pedals could be preset to fine tune, and shape frequency ranges on several effects. Almost forgot; this pedal is blue, as promised in the first line above.
