The Aphek Peanut Butter is an ingenious overdrive pedal. It's designed to bring out the sound, sustain and feeling of your amp's power tubes. Power tubes are magical when turned up high! So, step on the "PB" and singing, sustaining overdrive is there, without tremendous volume.
The PB circuit doesn't employ the usual compression, grind, and familiar mid-range boost, found in many effects. Clear, natural sounding OD, is easily achieved at very reasonable volume. The "Crunchy knob" offers some tasty crunch too, that's where the pedal gets it's name: like smooth/crunchy peanut butter.
The PB doesn't produce the grind of preamp tube boosters, or pedals built to emulate them. You'll also notice your notes do not smear together on chords.
even at higher settings, multiple notes maintain their individuality. You'll hear some silence around notes you want heard. Noise & buzzing, won't be fighting you to fill every silence, maybe for the first time. It becomes easier to hear you, you're more musical.
Finesse players have been very happy using the Peanut Butter alone, and because of it's clarity of attack, it works beautifully with many other ODs & boosters for your heavier sounds. One great player uses the PB to get his 'Hendrix Plexi-tone', at WAY less volume. Many uses!
