The Ibanez SD9 Sonic Distortion
Here's one of the pedals that 's a contender for the "Rodney Dangerfield Award". (It's easier to stay in character; if you keep adjusting your tie, or shirt collar as you read this). The SD-9 just doesn't get any respect.no respect, I'm tellin' Ya! Here it is: solid as a brick, and plenty of distortion, without turning into an all-out shapeless, fuzzbomb. This same pedal can be backed down to resemble a certain famous overdrive: (to get in the ballpark: turn the "Distortion" knob WAY down, and ease the "Tone" pot away from the bass, now dial the "Level" knob down to about 9-10 O'clock, for a useful overdrive). The SD-9 also has a much fuller frequency range than its famous relative... especially the full bottom end. And, hey; speaking of big bottoms, I met this little brunette once.I'm tellin' ya fellas! All I can say is: I thought they had big spreads in Texas!

And speaking of Texas, Stevie Ray, helped make the SD-9's nearest relative; the "Tube Screamer" series, so popular, that the SD-9 continued to get no respect, and was discontinued. No respect at all, since the Eighties!

Approaching the next century; now, some brave individuals have been picking up on this pedal. The "used price" is slowly moving up too. A sure sign of value. Apparently Ibanez agrees. They've noticed this resurgance, and yet another potential sales niche for green noisemaker, makers. They're now offering the, "Turbo Tube Screamer Overdrive: TS-9 DX", which allows you to dial in a range of gain, and frequency structures: from the Tube Screamer's controlled edge, toward the SD-9's fuller distortion.

We saw an ad for a Sonic Distortion pedal, a while back: it was creatively described something like this; the ad said: "The Tube Screamer's bigger, meaner, drunken cousin, who bursts into the house causing an argument, which upsets everyone, and makes the children cry"! Now, the author of this paraphrased description might have been exaggerating a bit, but the point is well made. We think this pedal is a good value, and deserves some respect. (Pulling on your tie is optional while listening to the sound files below). And thanks, thanks, so much! You've been a great audience!
