The Ultimate octave takes the octave-up concept, then extrapolates it to its conceivable limit.boldly going where no man, or woman has gone before.
Mike Fuller has a sturdy looking black box here with a textured, "Shot -on"finish. He uses the same transistor, which we've heard was in the original Fuzz Face pedal. The "Face" we had was gritty, and not as smooth, and round sounding as the fuzz in this unit.
One unexpected ultimate aspect of this pedal is, that you can use it with, or without the octave effect as a good sounding fuzz tone. The octave effect kicks in and out on its own foot switch. So step on it---go ahead," in the name of science", you must go on! Don't be afraid: adjust the Volume, Fuzz, and Tone knobs to heart's content. There's an additional Fat/Bright toggle switch, that allows you to choose from two wildly different EQs. This goes a long way toward helping to balance the mix.
Achtung, this is not a subtle effect! If you prefer a more subtle, overtone effect, Fulltone also has a pedal for you with a more traditional voicing. The ultimate octave; however, is like hot salsa: it will be too: intense for some, but others will dig it, in moderation. It's like a sort of sonic exclamation mark, used to drive home an idea, or to provide a contrast to more sonorous passages.
PS Even though Mike Fuller has included separate LEDs for on/off, and octave-up indication; anyone with near normal hearing, will never worry about being able to tell if this pedal is on, or off. Plus, it triggers well even when not using the neck pick up, and allows maximum flexibility about as far up and down the neck, as you're ever likely to experience.
