The Electro Harmonix 16 Sec Digital Delay
Electro Harmonix 16 Second Delay pedal: Come right on in! The EH "Sixteen Second Delay" is a Milestone on the map of Effect-Pedal Land. This pedal that looks a lot like EH's Micro-Synth, and Graphic Fuzz, with sliders etc., and a few extra buzzers, and bells. Mike Matthews, and Company were, way, w-a-y ahead of their time with this effect. Besides being a decent delay pedal, with loads of options, it creates numerous sound textures, and effects: from distant, repeating rhythm figures, to obvious warning buzzers and Martian rock quarry machines, pulsing Ray guns & beacons. Delay's of course, and BTW, this is the original device for recreating the backward effect live, without a tape loop. All this; done way back in the early 80's! This rig was made famous by progressive/experimental musicians like Adrian Belew/King Crimson.

Controls on this unit are numerous: the Delay section has two sliders marked Coarse, and Fine. The Sweep section has two sliders marked Speed, and Depth (of filtering). The Clix section has a click track of variable Rate. The Mix section has two sliders labeled Feedback, and Blend. Delay, Clix, and Mix; each, have an indicator LED, as does the "Slow/Fast/Infinite" switch, and the FWD.REV Effect switch. The Infinite setting can be footswitch activated, as is the Bypass setting. There's also Clock out, Foot Fswitch, Input, Direct Out, Effect Out, inputs, and outputs. There was a foot pedal you could get for this unit, which offered some extra control of effects on the fly. Ron Neely II of RonSound, builds an updated version of that ultra-rare foot pedal, to allows greater control of several 16 Second Delay, effects. This would be valuable for using the goodies, in this inspired creation.

Unless your heart is deeply focused on roots playing, the 16 Second Delay will start to draw your craziness out. Check out the sounds of backwardness, and a few of the other effects this pedal has to offer. These are only a few "snapshots" of what's available...it's deep.
